Our story

Tim French, CEO of Fitness Superstore Inc., began selling fitness equipment in 2003 out of his parents’ garage. Fitness Superstore was officially launched in 2010, and later became an S-Corp, changing its legal name to Fitness Superstore Inc. in 2013. Its success led to the creation of the French Fitness brand launched in 2019.

Offering Gym Equipment Since 2003

Our CEO started selling Bowflex Home Gyms in his parents’ garage
2003
He eventually got a self storage unit and the Bowflex continued as the main item
2004
Tim got his own place and started selling out of his garage, with the Bowflex still being the core product
2005
He then launched FitnessSales.com with a business partner out of a 2,500 sq ft warehouse in Concord, CA. They also began dealing with used commercial gym equipment - anything you see in a gym. Machines were cleaned and serviced before selling.
2007
FitnessSales.com folded and Tim founded Fitness Superstore. He started with a 4,200 sq ft warehouse on 5125 Port Chicago Hwy in Concord, CA, and expanded the business to include a staff, a comprehensive website, and a range of refurbished gym equipment. This is where the 7-step remanufacturing process began.
2010
This year marked the company's incorporation to Fitness Superstore Inc., and significant breakthroughs in the fitness industry. The business had grown to 35 employees and achieved $6 million in sales. We also moved into a 10,000 sq ft warehouse on 2551 Stanwell Dr in Concord, CA.
2013
Business continued to thrive and we leased an extra 7,500 sq ft warehouse in Antioch, CA for additional storage.
2014
We moved out of both previous warehouses to 537 Stone Rd, Benicia, CA, where we continue to operate to date.
2016
We went to IHSRA for the first time, and became an authorized dealer of various new equipment including BodySolid, Jacob's Ladder, BodyCraft, Marpo Kinetics, Power Plate, Versaclimber.
2017
Our founder and CEO developed French Fitness, a gym equipment brand that offers everything you need for a commercial or home gym.
2019
This year marks the beginning of our sustained achievement of $15 million in annual sales, driven primarily by the success of our remanufactured equipment and French Fitness product lines.
2020
In 2023, Fitness Superstore Inc. opened a second warehouse in Benicia, spanning 40,000 sq ft, which includes a 4,400 sq ft showroom primarily showcasing our renowned, homegrown French Fitness brand. With this addition, we now have two Benicia warehouses, totaling 63,500 sq ft, scaling up our operations.
2023

Present

With ambitions for continued growth, we are expanding our market presence and taking steps to achieve ISO 9001 certification. Additionally, we are migrating to a newer, more robust website to better serve our customers, while actively marketing our new showroom and its top-selling products through all available channels.
